Yikes - I am a local, and I cannot think of a single wine bar in Metairie. I would like to find a place to go to have a nice glass of wine and visit with friends (thus, a crowded bar just wouldn%26#39;t be appropriate). I%26#39;d prefer close or in Old Metairie. I am allergic to smoke, so am thinking a restaurant bar. The bar at Vega Tapas is a bit too small (no privacy for conversations). I was thinking perhaps the bar at the New City Grille, but have only dined there, and didn%26#39;t pay much attention to the actual bar.
Suggestions will be most appreciated.
Thanks!!!
Wine bar in Metairie
The closest would be Cork and Bottle in Mid-City (American Can Company) has just acquired the space next door and will be opening a wine bar. For now, they have tables in the store, and I%26#39;ve attended several wine tastings, which were wonderful.
Wine bar in Metairie
that%26#39;s funny, I was going to recommend Vega until you said it was too small. Well, also, Sun Ray has a nice bar area and it probably isn%26#39;t too smoky. It%26#39;s right next to Cork and Bottle. I didn%26#39;t pay attention to the bar at New City Grille either, so I%26#39;m no help there, sorry!
The bar area at New City Grille is not much larger...we ate there last Friday night (the ';early bird'; menu is awesome!) and the restaurant exit is next to the bar area, which was very crowded and not too quiet.
Not ';in'; but very near Old Metairie is Ristorante Filippo...it%26#39;s off West Napoleon near the Galleria. The restaurant as a whole is small, but the bar takes up a good portion of the restaurant, and there is an actual bar to sit at, as well as small tables in the bar area.
I%26#39;ve heard that Chateau du lac may be relocating from Kenner to Old Metairie...not sure when they will open, but it will be located close to Vega Tapas Cafe. I%26#39;ve heard many good things about the chef, as well as the wine list.
Oh, and I wanted to add that Ralph%26#39;s on the Park has a good-sized bar area, lots of selections. We have gone there ';just for the bar'; as well as to eat, and it%26#39;s great for either type of outing! It%26#39;s not exactly Old Metairie, but just about a 5 minute drive away.
Well, this is way out in Kenner, but I thought I%26#39;d throw it out there. I%26#39;ve heard good things about Calas Bistro %26amp; Wine Cellar at West Esplanade and Chateau.
