Grand Isle post Katrina

Hey...

Anyone been to Grand Isle after Hurricane Katrina?

Is it still there? Fishing still available?

Curious if the isle is still functional and visit-able!

I haven%26#39;t been but I think it%26#39;s fully recovered. My next door neighbor has a camp there and she said that it was fine. I%26#39;ve noticed lots of fishing rodeos in the Baton Rouge paper over the summer down there.

Grand Isle is back up and runnin, with lots of new accomodations. Katrina%26#39;s circulation actually had wind and water washing over the island from the north, then Rita sent water over from the gulf. Bridgeside Marina is brand new and fixed up nicely. Sand Dollar on the east end is going strong, and while you can still see debris here and there, everyone is back to pretty much normal. The Sureway grocery store is open. Romes and the Tarpon lounge are open with lots of lovely entertainment. Estay Shrimp Company is open with lots of big shrimp at very low prices. It%26#39;s a great time to make a trip, as hunting season opened and the crowds are thinned out.

Yes, the charters are running and everything looks pretty good. People have made a lot of repairs to their camps and homes, and the Island is moving forward. I would say if you are going to bring your own boat, check with the coast guard regarding post-Katrina ';trash'; that has been left in the Gulf of Mexico. I know there is a website for this, but I can%26#39;t think of what it is... other than that, Grand Isle is as beautiful as ever.
