My family is trying to squeeze in one last trip and I have a two part question: first of all, are the crowds excessive between Christmas and New Years? And, I have heard of resturaunts having special events during the holidays. Can anyone give me more details?
Christmas visiting
Many restaurants have special meals, called revellion dinners, during December. Type in fqfi.org and you will see christmas New Orleans Style - it will be for 2006 but you will get an idea of what all will be going on in December. There will be a tab that says revillion dinners. Click on the tab, and that will show you a bunch of different restaurants that have the special meals that I think you have heard about.

The updated Christmas New Orleans Style usually comes out in early October.
