I want to plan the perfect trip so there is no guesswork when we arrive. First not into all the noise at night so dont want to be in the French Quarter for accomodations but not too far. We will have our own car. Second where to eat breakfast and dinner two days moderately priced we dont like to get dressed up. Third what to do would really love a great ghost, vampire, voodoo experience or museum. Where to shop. Thank You

You might also want to check out Country inn and suites. I have a review from my trip in june that you can read on TA and it gets great reviews from others as well. 3 blocks to canal and then cross over and then you are in FQ. Very quiet ,clean and I highly recomend it.

We also did Haunted history tour, ghost tour of french quarter. It was very good and my 4 teens thought so too

There is not a problem with noise in almost all the hotels in the French Quarter that are off Bourbon Street. You have your own car but it is not necessary to have and better off not using while in the city due to one ways, construction, and heavy traffic. If you stay in a place with a great location such as the Place D%26#39;armes or Bourbon Orleans you will be close to so much and also near the areas for tours. Moderately priced for breakfast would be Coffee Pot or Cafe Beignet and dinner could be Gumbo Shop or Maspero%26#39;s on Decatur. Most restaurants do not require jackets anymore. Try doing forum searches on your interests as there have been many posts.

December is a beautiful time to be in the French Quarter - it is the off season and it is not noisy, and it is beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. I would recommend that you stay in the Quarter. Most of the hotels will have special rates during December. You fill find that most of what you want to see is in the Quarter and it is much more convenient to be there. Check out the website fqfi.org, Christmas New Orleans Style...they don%26#39;t have the 2007 information posted yet, but you can look at the 2006 info and get an idea of what all goes on in December (many different events, many free and some that you have to pay for, many different restaurants with special meals, special hotel rates, etc). The 2007 brochure should be coming out in early October.

We have always enjoyed Haunted History Tours, and your family might enjoy Mardi Gras World to see how the Mardi Gras floats are made. Shopping at the French Market is fun. Napoleon House is a great place to eat, for great atmosphere and an inexpensive meal.

In my opinion, December is the best time of year to visit New Orleans - my husband and I will be there with our 3 granddaughters!
