In order to be fully informed, you might want to Google Queen Fashions, Bourbon St., and click on all available sights for info and photos.

thanks. i have done so. i have seen photos and the apartment is beautiful. the address is 900 block of bourbon. guess residental area of bourbon? i was more worried about the ';laws'; regarding rentals i have seen on this forum. do you know this area? is it ok? are there guide lines for short term rentals that you know about? just dont want to get taken!

My understanding of the law is that unless the property has a license for short term rental, it is illegal to rent for less than 60 days in the French Quarter. Queen fashions, is listed in the 900 block of Bourbon St., toward the quieter end of the Quarter. It is advertised in gay publications, which may or may not have any bearing whatsoever on your decision. I assume the bar you%26#39;re speaking of is Lafitte%26#39;s Blacksmith, which I understand is generally regarded as the oldest bar. The fact that you made repeated requests for a confirmation and received, as you put it, a ';strange confirmation';, is unsettleing. You may want to consider other options.

I recommend against it. As lovenola said, it%26#39;s ILLEGAL if less than 60 days in the Quarter. No ifs, ands or buts. Realistically, nothing will happen if you do but why not take advantage of a tax-paying establishment!?!?

There is a New Orleans Web site that list all (almost all, As Cajin Wave said in one of his replies some web sites are slow to update changes) of the Licenesed lodging for the FQ. I believe it is ';New Orleans Hotels.com.'; Bon Masion is one of the guest houses listed that has rooms referred to as the ';slave quarters';. I would guess that some of the others also have the same ';quarters.'; Also there are some legal B%26amp;B%26#39;s that will not be listed with the hotels.

The city website (cityofno.com) has a ';Visitors'; tab. When you click it you can scroll down to a list of legal properties, B%26amp;B, hotel and motel. ALL legal properties (as of 7/31/04, at least) are listed. If it%26#39;s not listed and it isn%26#39;t newly-opened it probably isn%26#39;t legal.

Again, ';condo rentals'; per se are illegal in N.O. for short-term stays. Period. The owners do not have insurance for short-term guests, don%26#39;t pay proper taxes, have not been inspected by the fire department and you are out of luck if you have a dispute or, god forbid, an emergency situation.

Thanks CW, that%26#39;s a new one for me. I%26#39;ll make a note of it for future reference and for my own use. Every time I find a good site for NO I add it to my list of favorites.

I recently stayed at the one of the rentals at 900 Burbon Street. It was the most horrible experience of my life!! Do not do it! First we were arriving the day after Mari Gras, so the people renting the house were obviously hung over and the room was not even ready. We flew in from Las Vegas and got there around midnight and the place was a total mess. They had their ';helper'; cleaning it while we were still there. The next day we were supposed to be moved to the Tenessee Williams apartment because we had 6 people with us and the house on 900 Burbon was too small for us, it only had 1 bed. Once we moved over to the Tenessee williams place everything went down hill. My sister in law and my self were alone in the apartment, all the men were out for the night, when all of a sudden 2 people walk into the place. They gave us some story about how they were the landlords (Finis Shellnut) daughter and helper. While the daughter was distracting us with some story about the landlord not knowing we were staying there, the ';helper'; was in the other room stealing out wallets. We were so freaked out that we were not paying attention to him. We even called the landlords partner (Annie) after his daughter left, and she came over and calmed us down and appologized for them intruding on us. Next day, we realize that our wallets are gone! So we call the landlord and his partner (Finis and Annie),she comes over and kicks us out because we accused her daughter of stealing our wallets!! We were staying for 12 days and this was only day 2! So we call the broker company that set us up with this psycho people and then they said they will put us back in the 900 Burbon house. Ok but its still TOO SMALL for 6 people. So they also put a few of us across the street in yet another rental. What a freakin nightmare. The only good side was the cool old bar across the street. But I will never ever go back to New Orleans because of them.

Once we got back to Vegas. We had a package with our wallets in there! Some man saw a girl drop them on the street and he picked them up and shipped them to us in Las Vegas.

blackfintuna..That is the %26#39;gay%26#39; area for the most part if that is what you might be questioning. Lafitte%26#39;s is not a gay bar. I%26#39;d just advise another place due to the liability and strong possibility it is not a legal rental and you%26#39;d have problems getting recourse should there be problems. And also its taking away from hard working businesses that in many cases have struggled to remain viable post Katrina.

remember there are TWO bars called Lafitte%26#39;s on the same block:

Lafitte%26#39;s Blacksmith Shop is the old, famous bar that%26#39;s often photographed and is a must-stop for buggies

Cafe Lafitte in Exile is the gay bar at the corner of Dumaine. The blacksmith shop was a gay bar in the 1950s/1960s until new owners ';kicked out'; the gay customers, who opened their own bar down the street. Hence the ';in Exile'; part of the bar%26#39;s name!
