How do I call the hotel manager for a great deal?

Once again I%26#39;ve read in the paper and seen on TV the experts saying that in order to get a great hotel room at a great price, you should talk directly to the hotel manager. How do you go about doing this? Since Mr. Greenberg is one that keeps recommending this, but he is a nationally known travel writer and TV personality. Maybe the hotel managers will take his calls, but I can%26#39;t believe that if I and others call, the manager will have time to take all these calls for reservations. Has anyone had any experiance with this?

I haven%26#39;t seen these TV shows or newspaper articles that you%26#39;re referencing and I don%26#39;t know who ';Mr Greenberg'; is, but I would tend to agree - if the hotel manager has time to take all these calls for reservations, how is he/she going to find time to actually manage the hotel?

Maybe they mean contact the Front Desk Manager on duty? Absent some kind of special circumstances I can%26#39;t imagine they would do anything other than transfer you to the reservation line, but let us know how it works out!

Peter Greenberg has written maybe 5 books on travel. He also works for the Travel Channel and is the travel editor for the ';Today Show';. In the first chapter of his book ';The Travel Detective'; he says - ';you need to speak directly to the hotel%26#39;s general manager, the manager on duty, or the director of sales.';

And like you pointed out earlier, if you%26#39;re this guy who has written 5 books and is on TV, I%26#39;m sure you get right through to these people! :)

I can%26#39;t imagine a ';Director of Sales'; making reservations unless you%26#39;re bringing in a group.

(I don%26#39;t get the Travel Channel on my cable system, guess that%26#39;s why I never heard of the guy

I haven%26#39;t written any books and haven%26#39;t tried talking to the manager but I usually get GREAT rates. I do this by using several different methods. The most reliable is booking thru bookit.com-sidestep.com-or nextag.com. Other times I will get the same day rates or walk in rates. Priceline has also worked well for me. When are you going and I%26#39;ll see what I can find?
